Format Pane

This section consists of all the settings and formatting options that fall under the “Format” pane offered by the Powerviz. It includes settings like number formatting, title, background, and others. If you want to know about advanced settings, read this article.

Visual settings

Powerviz license

Once you've joined Powerviz, you'll have access to all the visuals in the library. You have received your credentials, which you must enter here to use the pro version.

Visual settings

Visual settings show and hide the advanced settings' icon. This icon give you access to open formatting options and customize them. Read this article to learn more about advanced settings.

Number formatting

Use number formatting to format the measure value. This number formatting is very easy to use.

The number formatting provides the following option:

FeatureFunctionality
Decimal SeparatorThe decimal separator by default is . (1.23). It can be changed to any other symbol.
Thousand SeparatorThe thousand separator by default is , (1,000). It can changed to any other symbol.
Decimal PlacesChoose the number of decimal places.
Scaling DisplayControl the scale of value from the list of auto, none, thousands, million, billion, and trillion.
PrefixThe prefix comes before the value and can be customized.
SuffixSuffixes come after the value and can be customized.
Customized Scaling LabelTo modify the scaling format, use the “customized scaling label”. The word million for instance, can be spelled as millions, M, or Mn.

                                                   

tip

Disable the Number Formatting option to apply the default Power BI formatting. Recommended in case of % type value.

Legend

Legend helps in detecting the categories by associating them with a color.

These are the options under legend:

FeatureFunctionality
PositionIt defines the placement of the legend on the visual. Pick from 12 unique options.
Legend TitleInput the name for the title.
FormattingCustomize the font color, size, and family.

                                                   

General settings

General settings contains the Power BI native features that is common in all visual. Read about them in detail here.

Properties

The first option in general tab is properties. The Properties option allows to change the size and position of the visuals. You can choose the horizontal and vertical position on the canvas as well as the visual size's height and width. With that control the gap and layer responsiveness using padding and advanced options.

                                                   

Title

Add title on your visuals. Title card offers following features.

Title TextEnter the custom title.
Text FormattingFont size, color, and family.
Advanced FormattingBold, italic and underline.
Background ColorChange the color.
Horizontal AlignmentLeft, right and center.
Text WrapWrap text into multiple lines.

In the recent update, you can also add subtitles and a divider. They come with font style and color formatting options.

                                                   

Additional settings

Moreover, the general settings include settings for tooltips, header icons, alt text, and effects that control the background, border, and shadow. You can turn them on or off to control the selected visual option.
