Get Started

Steps
Description

1

Select the Powerviz Word Cloud visual from the visualization pane.

2

Add at least one Dimension to the Category field.

3

Add any one Measure into the Measure Field.

Finish

Powerviz Word Cloud is now ready. By default it shows top 500 words, words are split based on comma and space, and the case type is title case.

INFO

Use advanced settings to customize all the options in the word cloud except legends and number formatting.

If you only select one dimension for the category field, then the word cloud will still be built as per the frequency of the word. You do not require measure data in this case.

Open the advanced settings to make high-quality visuals that fit your needs.

Watch the setup video for the Powerviz Word Cloud visual.

Field Requirements

Word clouds are commonly used to quickly summarize and visualize the most common words or phrases in a body of text. A word cloud visual shows the word based on their frequency or measure selected.

We have the following fields available in the Word Cloud field tab:

Category Data: This consists of any dimension field which contains the text you want to display. You can add more than 1 dimension field to visualize. In case you have added more than one dimension in the category field, a hierarchy will be created and to show the next level click on expand all.

Measure Data: The text will be resized according to this value. This consists of any one numeric column (this field and category data field could be the same as well)

NOTE

If you only select one dimension for the category filed, then the word cloud will still be built as per the frequency of a word. You do not require measure data in this case.

Tooltip: It is a Power BI native option; you can use it to show additional information about each category on the tooltip. You can also use a tooltip to apply measure-type conditional formatting.

Show: This option allows you to control the visual rendering based on a specific rule. You need to add a Boolean-type (0 or 1) column or measure. If the output is 1, the visual will be visible; otherwise, the visual will show the error message. To know more about this option, read this section on Show condition.

NOTE

Only one column or calculated measure/calculated column can be added in the Show field.
