Exclude option allow you to exclude **stop word**. Stop words are words that are used very often but do not carry any significant meaning for analysis purposes. Examples of stop words include numbers, emojis, conjunctions, and punctuation.
You can easily clean your word cloud without using any complex DAX formulas and spending lots of time.
Open the Exclude option using the “⚙️” advanced settings panel.
You will get the 6 options to exclude the stop word.
The 1st 4 options are check boxes and the last 2 options are custom options.
Enable the options as per your preference.
Hit Apply.
Result- Stop words will be eliminated.
Powerviz word cloud offer 6 different exclude options:
Exclude all the numerical digit from your visual just by checking ✔️ the box.
Note: Separate numbers or numbers attached to other words will be removed from the word cloud.
Exclude all the emojis from your visual by checking ✔️ the box.
Punctuations option allows you to easily remove punctuation marks from your word cloud visual just by checking ✔️ the box. By enabling this option we remove these .? , ” : ;’ / () specific punctuation.
If you want to remove the punctuation marks other than this then use the special character option.
By enabling the conjunctions, all of the words in the list of conjunctions will be immediately removed.
List of conjunction:
a, after, although, and, as, as far as, as if, as long as, as much as, as soon as, as though, because, before, both, but, but also, by, by the time, either, even, even if, even though, for, how, if, if only, if then, if when, in as much as, in case, in order that, in order to, inasmuch, is, it, just, just as, lest, neither, no sooner, nor, not only, now, now since, now that, now when, of, or, or not, provide that, provided, rather, since, so, so that, such, supposing, than, that, the, then, though, till, unless, until, what, when, whenever, where, where if, whereas, wherever, whether, while, whoever, whose, why, yet
This option allows you to exclude special characters. You can exclude special characters just by typing them like $ %, @. This will remove all the special characters from the word cloud.
> Note - If you type any alphabets in special character option only those characters from the word will be removed in which there is also a symbol or number attached to it.
If you want to insert numerous symbols, the best way is the symbol without any spaces like @X#.
Note: If you want to put space or commas this will still work.
Words is a bit different than excluding special character. Here you can exclude entire words or words that consist of specific letters.
If you want to get rid of numerous words, write them in this way "word1, word2". Pay attention to the spacing.
In case of removing words based on a condition, use Asterisk (*) for example “*word*”. Suppose you want to see all words which do not include the letter “a”. Input “*a*” > Apply. As result, words with the alphabet “a” is now removed from the canvas.
Note: Quotation marks (“ ”) are just for highlighting purposes. Do not use them while writing inputs.
